The next Parish Council meeting
will take place on
Monday 18th March 2024
at 7pm in Oare Village Hall.
Parish councils are the first tier of local government and have certain duties and legal powers. They are democratically and financially accountable to the local community. They have a legal right to be informed about planning applications and other issues. Parish councils raise money through their precept, which is collected through the local council tax. They are not responsible for waste collection, parking or traffic, planning or education. To be a parish councillor you need to be over 21 and an elector, or live or work in the area or within three miles of it.
Oare Parish Council covers the village from The Castle Inn on the Street, Colegates Road to the southwest, Church Road up to the nature reserve in the north, and Uplees Road through Uplees to the Swale.
It is responsible for footway lighting, noticeboards, maintaining the playing field and equipment and also owns some land at the wharf, which is leased out. It also leases the allotments to Oare Garden Society.
Oare Parish Council comprises seven members who are elected every four years. The most recent election was in May this year so the next will be in 2027. All members are unpaid volunteers who care about the village.
There are currently two vacancies on the council. If you are interested in filling one of these, please get in touch with one of the councillors or the clerk.
The council meets on the third Monday of the month (although not every month), at 7.00pm in Oare Village Hall.
